A late 19th century sterling rectangular match safe with all-over niello decoration , leaving a garter-bordered vacant cartouche.
Condition of the match safe and the niello decoration is pristine. It must have been in someone's collection as it shows absolutely no indications of use.
Hallmarked under the cover for Vienna c.1872-1922, a purity of 900/1000 and a maker M & S (unknown to me)
