Product Description
A wonderful sterling horn-handled and glass-bottomed mug with very fine acid-etched decoration by Intenational Silver.
The decoration is floral and scroll with "Backgammon Champion" in naturalistic capital letters, along the rim. Below that in similar lettering is "Lotos Club" with an etched cup and 2 dice within a large etched floral and scroll border.
The Lotus Club is one of New York's more interesting private clubs. It was founded in 1870 as a literary club, and counted Mark Twain among its early members. The selection of the name was to convey "rest and harmony", coming from Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem, The Lotos Eaters.
The club is till in existence and is situated at 5 East 66th Street, NY.
Although it is a trophy, it is, as yet, uninscribed.
In very good condition.
Fully hallmarked around the glass base, Sterling, International's logo of an Indian head and #5.
Dimensions: Height 4.75". Gross weight 10.6 troy oz.
