Product Description
An aesthetically pleasing pair of hand-crafted sterling candlesticks, by Carl Poul Petersen, Montreal, Canada, c.1960.
Carl Poul Petersen (1895-1977) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he served his apprenticeship under Georg Jensen between 1908-13. In 1922 he married Jensen's daughter, Inger and then, in 1929, he moved to Montreal, where he was employed by Henry Birks & Sons.
In 1944 he opened his own studio, producing a whole range of hand wrought silverware. By the time he retired in 1975 he was the leading force in Canadian modern silver design.
His work is greatly sought after and can be found in major museums and private collections in Canada and the USA.
As one would expect his designs bear a close resemblance to the early productions of Georg Jensen.
These candlesticks are in amazingly good condition, almost flawless. They were probably part of someone's collection and, therefore, hardly used.
They are weighted and have detachable bobeches.
Dimensions: 9” tall.
