A sterling silver beaker of George III form, Chinese Export, c.1880.
Of English Georgian form with a reeded lip. Internal gold wash still intact though slightly faded. Hung Chong was one of the leading silversmiths of Canton and Shanghai and the company was in operation from 1850 to 1925. His usual mark was HC in a rectangle with a Chinese ideogram. This is the identical HC to that shown in Chait's and Forbes's books (see bibliography) but struck twice and without the ideogram. Scrolling ML monogram, contemporary.
A few minor usage dings. No repairs.
