A fine oval bulbous soup tureen in Sheffield Plate by Matthew Boulton, c.1800.
Of classic form with chased foliate decoration to the legs and side handles and a gadroon rim. The lid has a wide band of gadrooning interspersed with shells enclosed in foliate wreaths with a leaf-decorated handle.
In very good condition for its age. A few minor dings and a bit of bleeding at the edges and high points. very nice patina.
A small coat of arms on the body with a crest on the lid.
Double struck with his sunburst mark under the lid.
Also stamped #1 on the edges of the body and lid.
Dimensions: 16" handle to handle, 10" wide, 9" high.
