Product Description
A fine pair of early George III Corinthian column paktong candlesticks, English c.1765-75.
Paktong is a rare alloy of copper, nickel and zinc which was invented by the Chinese for Imperial use. During the 18th century small quantities of paktong were imported by Western craftsmen to make domestic wares, particularly candlesticks.
These are comparable in form to the cast silver candlesticks of the period, from the gadrooned base to the Corinthian capitals and the separate bobeches.
In very good condition with a nice glowing patina. A couple of tiny dings and a split in end of one bobeche, but not visible when in place.
Height: 10.75”. Shipping weight: 1.18 Kg, 2.65 lb
