Product Description
An impressive '800' silver tankard embellished in the medieval Teutonic fashion, Germany c.1890.
The body and lid is embossed with knights and coats-of-arms amid a dense forest, supported on three ball feet.
Hallmarked under the base with spurious maker's marks, lions and crowns. These marks were never meant to be taken seriously, they were imitations of earlier marks much as the decoration was a copy of the 17th century style.
There was a huge demand in the late 19th and early 20thcenturies for the Classical and Baroque styles. Much of the decorative Continental silver bearing early marks was produced during this period.
In very good condition.
Dimensions: 7.25” high. Weight: 21.5 Troy oz.
